In conjunction with Project Liberty (John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University) and the Democracy After Communism Foundation (located in Budapest), MONA organized a two-day workshop on the role of women as political and business leaders. The workshop was the continuation of a conference by the same title organized by Project Liberty in Vienna, Austria, in November 1992.The purpose of the seminar was to examine more closely what type of leadership and management training could be utilized by women in Hungary. Lesley Abdela, founder and member of British 300 Group, facilitated the two workshops, offered suggestions for Western training, and co-wrote a report with Paige Alexander of Project Liberty on the types of training that could be utilized. The report also included reports from Poland and the Czech Republic. Approximately 40 women attended each workshop and shared their personal experiences as professional women.
Topics included (for women in politics): public appearance, public speech and presentations, debate techniques, media techniques and networking with the press, giving interviews, etc.; (for women in business) how to obtain starting capital, economic expertise and counseling, building networks in the business community, planning and starting a private enterprise. The project resulted the above mentioned reports and a very strong professional relationship between the organizers and the participants.
